A man wearing a huge ring hands a bomb to a monkey wearing an organ grinder's suit. In Colonel Armstrong's office, Jim and Artie meet Gerta Sharff. Gerta used to be in Count Manzeppi's organization and wants to trade information for protection. The monkey climbs through the window. Jim looks out the window and notices Manzeppi. The bomb goes off and Gerta disappears. Jim climbs out the window while Artie goes down the stairs. Manzeppi has disappeared, leaving only the organ behind. Artie finds a toy chicken on the stairs. Jim rides back to the train and finds Gerta in his dressing gown. Gerta takes Jim's gun belt and throws it out the window. She asks for her chicken and finds it's been locked up in Armstrong's office. Manzeppi arrives, along with two henchmen. Jim pulls a cord, which sets of fireworks, which interrupts Artie and a "friend." Artie sneaks back in the train and hands Jim a gun. Gerta leaves. Jim and Artie search the monkey, who pulls another bomb out of his hat. The bomb explodes and Manzeppi and his henchmen disappear.
Jim and Artie examine the chicken only to find nothing. They are told to report to Armstrong's office. Artie goes when Jim accidentally set the chicken off. It taps out "Heinrich Sharff" in Morse code. Jim puts the chicken in his jacket and leaves. Jim goes to the shop, shows the chicken to the clerk and asks for Sharff. While waiting, Jim watches a moving picture of Manzeppi. Dodo sneaks up behind Jim and Manzeppi makes his entrance, while playing the violin, on a crescent moon which descends from the ceiling. Luther knocks the gun from Jim's hand and Dodo grabs it. Jim makes a star fall on Luther and Dodo, beats up Benji and runs up the stairs. He runs into a dead end, attaches the chicken to the ceiling and grabs a fake bird from a cage. The wall opens and Jim continues. He reaches a landing and is blown into a chute which leads to Manzeppi's parlor.
Count Manzeppi asks Jim for the chicken. Jim hands him the fake bird. Luther searches Jim, does'nt find the bird, so Manzeppi invites Jim to dinner. Benji brings in a covered dish and sets it on the table. Manzeppi uncovers the dish, a gun pops up and shoots Jim. Artie and Colonel Armstrong wonder where Jim is. Artie gets an idea. He dresses up as an organ grinder with the chicken on the organ. Gerta makes a grab for the bird and Artie bites its head off. Jim wakes up in a cage. Nenji wheels in a cart covered with torture instuments. Manzeppi tells Jim that if Jim doesn't give him the bird, Benji will flay him alive. Jim asks why Manzeppi wants the bird so badly. Manzeppi tels Jim that the chicken contains a Philosopher's Stone, which turns ordinary objects to gold in the light of the full moon. Count Manzeppi leaves and Benji rings the bell for Dodo.
Heinrich's uncle, "Heinzie", arrives carrying a basket of goodies. He yells for Heinrich, empties the basket and squirts Dodo and Luther in the face with a seltzer bottle. Heinzie runs upstairs while Count Manzeppi watches, giggling. Artie finds Jim and Benji. Benji attacks Artie. Artie tries squirting him and finds the bottle is empty. He hands Jim something or other and attacks Benji. Jim get out of the cage and knocks Benji out. Dodo and Luther arrive and Jim and Artie knock them out, too. Jim and Artie retrieve the chicken. The wall opens and reveals Manzeppi and Gerta. Jim hands Manzeppi the bird. Gerta turns her gun on Manzeppi, takes the bird and goes up to the roof. Manzeppi escapes. Dodo and Luther arrive (again) and Jim and Artie knock them out (again). Jim and Artie follow Gerta and Manzeppi up to the roof. Gerta screams and they discover her turned to gold. Manzeppi turns the statue into gold flakes and escapes in a hot air balloon. Artie shows the flakes to their dinner dates and the foursome leave. Mama Angelina clears the table, turns off the lights and opens the shades. The gold flakes turn back into the chicken. Mama Angelina takes the bird for her son.
