The Night of the Kraken

an Artie-ful Fourth Season Episode

Jim and a disguised Artie meet with Dave Barrett, a sailor in the Navy. Barrett tells them that something is going on in the Navy. Several men arrive who have been following Barrett for several days. Jim and Artie delay them, well, ok, beat them up, catching up to Barrett just in time to see him being smashed to pieces by a giant tentacle. Jim and Artie then go see Admiral Hammond, who tells them that three Portuguese fishermen have also been torn to pieces. While there they meet Deloris, Hammond's wife, who claims to hate octopii, but looks adoringly at them when she thinks no one is looking. Jim and Artie split up. Jim goes to meet with Agila, the leader of the Portuguese fishermen, while Artie goes to search Barrett's room. Jim and Agila are attacked by a group of men in Civil War uniforms. Artie finds a key hidden in Barrett's room. After a fight, Jim and Agila go fishing. Artie finds the room the key belongs to, enters and finds some diving equipment. Jim and Agila are attacked by the tentacle. The tentacle knocks Jim out of the boat and kills Agila. It grabs Jim, but instead of drowning Jim manages to hack a hunk out of it. The hunk looks suspiciously like Styrofoam (don't worry, it's supposed to).

Jim and Artie take the hunk o' tentacle to Admiral Hammond, who reveals that Admiral Farragut is sailing in on the Ironclad Missouri the day after next. A cadet brings in a bottle of wine. The bottle blows up, killing Hammond. Artie and Jim find a model of an undersea dome in Hammond's office. Jim and Artie figure out where the real dome is. (Guess what, it just happens to be the spot where Jim and Agila were attacked!) Jim takes the diving apparatus and, well, dives. (Isn't it amazing how the light at ninety feet below the surface is as bright as, say, a swimming pool .) Jim finds a hatch and enters the dome. Meanwhile, Artie is off to find the dome's air compressor. In the dome, Jim finds Deloris and Ted Knight (sorry, never did catch the name.) Ted Knight reveals his plan to blow up the Missouri with a magnetically guided missile. They then plan to sell the dome to the highest bidder. Artie arrives just as the missile is launched. After a fight, Jim and Artie lock all the bad guys in the dome. Jim stops the missile and turn it back to the dome. The dome blows up. The End.
